Welcome to Through the Forest Farm
on Substack
‘Twas the eve before a snowstorm that is sweeping across the county and that seems like as good a time as any to kick off a substack journey. So here goes!
Through the Forest Farm is a small-batch CSA in Clarksville, MD. Now in our third year (Spring/Summer 2026), we grow vegetables, fruits, flowers, and herbs, propagate our own plants, and save our own seeds. Every week, we’ll share our harvest notes, experiments, and ideas from the field.
With the expansion of our CSA this year, we’ll be moving our printed weekly newsletter online to substack for the following reasons:
Ease of distribution
Less wasted paper
More dynamic medium to share content
Pictures/videos
Late breaking content
Fix typos :)
You still get it when you/we are on vacation!
Expanded reach
As of this writing all of our content is free for two weeks but for a nominal subscription fee, you can gain access to comment and see our blog archive.
Below is a photo snapped today that shows the farm in its resting state (before it is covered in a foot of snow and ice). While it doesn’t look like much, this is like a farmers dream blank canvas. It’s only been a few short years but we are very proud of the soil we are building. These permanent raised beds are light and fluffy, contain an underground network of roots and microbes ready to support and burst with life in just a few months.
And finally, here is your reminder/announcement that our 2026 CSA signup is NOW OPEN!
That’s all for now, talk to you soon!
